Mr. Hanley and I packed up and headed down to Eugene yesterday! At 2 months old, this kid has been up and down the I-5 more times than I can count but this time it was just the 2 of us! It was a perfect day for a drive.
The original reason for my drive to Eugene was to pick up a bag of goodies from Tammy (Thank you again Tammy!) and a few other various things while we were there for Christmas. So, I thought it was a good chance for Hanley and I to make a day in Eugene out of it.
My Mom has been working at a new school for the past 2 years and I haven't been there yet. So, I thought this was the perfect chance to meet her for lunch, see where she works and meet some of her co-workers. She happens to work with our friend Veronica as well. So, Hanley and I arrived a little early so we could catch her at her lunch as well. I think Grandma and Hanley both enjoyed their time together.
After lunch, we went over to Jess and Nathan's house. They were home with the kids. Madison was very interested in seeing "Baby Hanley" and Adien played quietly with his legos. He's almost 5 years old and I am pretty sure he was putting together projects that were more age appropriate for a 7 or 8 year old. Yes, I was very impressed! I laughed when it was time to feed Hanley. When placed him under the hooter hider, Madison said, "Baby Hanley went back in Chelsea's tummy!" Oh, she is just too cute. It was nice to spend some time with them and not feel rushed. A lot of times we see them as we are heading out of town and it ends up just being a quick visit.
We were back on the road just in time for Hanley to take another nap (He's been up and down the I-5 several times but has never actually seen it-he's always passed out! Since there is no much to see anyways, he's not missing out on anything!). We even beat Cody home from work by about 15 minutes or so. That's not saying a whole lot though because he has been working longer days lately. Unfortunately, they are just going to get longer so I guess I should hold off on the complaining :o)

2 Month Check-Up
I scheduled Hanley's 2 month appt at his last visit. At that time, I just told the scheduling coordinator to make his appt. anytime, any day except Friday. Well, I got his reminder call this week telling me his appointment was today at 8:30am! Yikes, that was a mistake :o)
After battling another round of mastitis and very little sleep (because of mastitis, not because of Hanley), we manged to get up and out the door this morning on time.
Stats:
12lbs, 14 oz (70th percentile)
23.5 inches- He's grown 2 inches in 6 weeks! (80th percentile)
I am not sure what his head measured out to be but he is still in the 85th percentile for head circumference.
Despite having to get Hanley up early this morning, he was in a really good mood. Lots of coo's for the nurse up until it came time for his vaccinations. He got 3 shots and an oral vaccination. Poor guy. Until this morning, I had totally forgot he was going to get vaccinations at this appointment. Before heading out the door, Cody called from work. Of course he tried to make me feel better about the vaccinations and said, "You got shots when you were a kid and you don't hate your parents for it. He will be just fine." He was right, Hanley did pretty good. He's one tough little boy.

Our Week in The Eug
This was our first Christmas as a family of 3...okay, well a family of 5 (can't forget about Roxy and Maxi!). Normally I love Christmas. I love the lights, tree, and decorations. I love the spirit of giving and buying gifts for others (especially when I find just the perfect gift). I love wrapping, ribbon and bows. I love family gatherings. I love sending out our annual Christmas letter. I love it all. I love Christmas.
This year was different though. This year, Christmas was a challenge. Shopping with a newborn with a serious case of Mommy brain is rough! Heck, simply getting all the wrapping done was even a challenge. Everything about preparing for the Holidays was about 10x harder than normal and to top it off I came down with mastitis just before Christmas.
Whether we were ready for Christmas or not, it arrived and we were busy!
We spent the Saturday before Christmas in Tillamook. My Aunt held the family Christmas gathering at her house this year. She did a great job hosting and everyone enjoyed visiting with each other. Hanley got to meet his Great Grandma and Grandpa Robideau and the rest of the family for the first time!
On Sunday we drove down to Eugene and we spent a whole jam packed week there..
Sunday night: Lefse Night with the in-laws.
Monday: Monday was a full day...Christmas Eve Brunch with my family, Church (Hanley did great at church!), Olson Family Christmas.
Tuesday: Christmas day- after opening gifts, Cody and I took Hanley for a walk then we finished the day off with a family dinner before Courtney had to head back home to Seattle. Santa brought Cody and I a video camera for Christmas, so just a fair warning...you will probably see lots of video's on the blog in the near future!
Wednesday: Cody went to lunch with Jordan while Hanley and I hung out with Amie, then we met back up to visit the Kunasek's. Cody pretty much spent the whole time playing with Aiden and his new nerf gun (which Aiden refers to as his AR!).
Thursday: Roxy went to the Doggie Spa and Cody and I spent the day running errands. I finally got Cody to go to Cafe Yumm with me for lunch. (It's one of my favorites that he always refuses to try!). I think he might have even like it a little :o) Then we joined everyone at Steelhead Brewery for Jordan's Farewell Party. It was great to spend the evening with so many people who love and support the Young Family...good thoughts and many prayers are being sent their way!
Friday: Since Wayne and Brooke were in California for Christmas they had us over for breakfast in the the morning. Everytime we see Wayne and Brooke, it makes me wish we were able to spend more time with them. We decided to take Hanley to the coast for the day so after breakfast, we packed up and headed to Florence. When we got home, Kim and Loren took us out for dinner at Coburg Pizza Company for dinner (one of Cody's favorites). If you are up for a crazy good pizza (crazy as in: Cheeseburger pizza or Loaded Baked Potato pizza) , go there...you wont be disappointed! After dinner, we hung out with Kyle and Sarah at their house. It was fun to visit with them and we look forward to seeing more of them!
Saturday: Saturday was game day- Beaver game day that is. Thank God for friends like Amie and Tyler who came over and saved me from a bunch of Beavers :o) Cody and Loren needed a distraction after the Beaver's loss so we went to Cabella's to look at pontoon boats for Cody. I just went for the fudge :o)
Sunday: Grandma Tina came over for breakfast Sunday morning. We enjoyed breakfast over a discussion about politics. Talking politics with an 89 year old can be pretty entertaining too! Before we hit the road, we stopped by my parents house for a cup of my Dad's famous coffee (Cody calls it Canadian coffee!).
Even with how busy we stayed in Eugene, we still didn't get to do everything and see everyone we wanted. I guess maybe next time we just need to stay a whole month! Haha. We really enjoyed our week in Eugene but it was nice to get back home to our own bed. Hanley handled our busy schedule very well but I think he too was happy to be home.

2012 Reflection
As the year end approaches, it's always fun to look back and reflect. 2012 has been a great year for the Olson/Stuebing clan:
-We found out we were pregnant not long after the New Year!
-My brother Wayne got engaged in February! Him and Brooke are planning an August 2013 Wedding and our family couldn't be happier for them both. Cody and I are very thankful to be gaining a sister like Brooke. Mari is coming all the way from Japan to be here for their wedding too!
-Cody and I traveled to The Big Island of Hawaii with his parents in March when I was 7 weeks pregnant. We celebrated Loren's birthday with a fishing trip. When the 12 ft swells didn't make me sea sick Cody said, "Well, I guess we know we are having a boy!".
-My sister-in-law, Courtney moved to Texas for work. Cody and I got to visit her on separate trips. I went in April and he went in August. 8-9 Months later, she moved back to the Pacific Northwest!!!!!!! She now resides in Seattle and seems to really love it. It's nice to have her close to home again.
-My brother Caleb graduated from The School of Dentistry at OHSU. That officially makes him the first Dentist in the family! He recently took a job opportunity in Bethel, Alaska. Cody and I hope to make it up there to visit him sometime before his 2 year contract is up. Hopefully he is surviving the below freezing temperatures (earlier this month it was -25 degrees there! Yes there IS a NEGATIVE sign in front of that 25!).
-In June, Brooke received her degree in Respiratory Therapy. I was hoping her career would take her and Wayne up here to Portland but so far no luck there.
-We didn't do as much camping as we would have liked to but we enjoyed the few trips that we did make.
-Cody got his first deer since we have met. I used to give him a hard time about all this "hunting" he does when really it just seemed like he did a lot of "camping"! When he came home with it and I cried, he explained to me that part of a man's duty is to provide and it's "not someones pet". I think he was beginning to blame me for his bad streak, so despite my animal loving heart, I guess it was a good thing.
-The birth of Mr. Hanley was the highlight of our year! Everything about having Hanley has brought Cody and I so much closer- from the pregnancy to preparing the nursery to the delivery to parenthood. Words cannot express my love for Hanley and the joy it brings me to see Cody as a father. I have said it before but I think the 3 of us make one heck of a team.
-I have really enjoyed being at home with Hanley. I kind of thought I might go a little stir crazy but he has kept me busy for sure!!! There's no time or energy to have cabin fever with a newborn. I am making sure to cherish each moment I have with him before returning back to work. Maternity leave is truly a special time for Mommy and Baby to bond.
-Cody is taking some time off of work between Christmas and New Years. It has really been nice to spend quality family time for the Holidays.
This year has been a true blessing. I sure hope 2013 is just as good to us! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Weekend Rundown
This weekend the family gathered to celebrated Great Grandma's 95th Birthday. Great Grandma continues to amaze me with how much energy and life she still has in her! Hanley was such a good little boy for the party...I think he was putting on a show for all the Grandma's!
Saturday night Cody and I got out for our first date night since Hanley's birth! At my request, we went out for sushi. I hadn't had sushi since we found out that we were pregnant. Dinner and drinks at Izumi's was the perfect way to spend the night together. Our evening out really gave us some time to reconnect and Hanley enjoyed some special time with Grandma and Grandpa Olson.

Gettin' Out of the House
Hanley and I try to get out of the house at least once each day. Whether it's to run a quick errand or just go for a walk. I figure, if I need out of the house daily, Roxy does too. So, she joins us for walks and we try to mix in as much park time as possible too. It's been kind of a challenge to walk with a stroller and a 100 pound dog with lots of energy! Seriously, the first time I took both Rox and Hanley out for a walk by myself, Roxy had to the Bob on 2 wheels on more than one occasion! I have had to be pretty stern with her to make it clear that she can't pull on the leash when she's excited and that the stroller will run her over if she's in the way. Tough love I suppose but she is starting to get the hang of it which is making our walks more enjoyable.
This morning was chilly but we took advantage of the dry weather. We took Roxy to the park to play fetch then went for a nice long walk.

I kissed Mr. Hanley goodbye and left the house without a diaper bag Friday night to join my favorite work gals for our Christmas party! Wow, it felt weird.
I thought I would have a hard time leaving Hanley for the first time but Cody got stuck in traffic on the way home from work which meant by the time he got home, I had to literally run out the door. This probably ended up being a good thing because it didn't give me time to think about leaving my baby.
Dr. June spoiled us for the night and everyone had a great time!! I feel so lucky to be a part of such a great team.
When I got home, I realized how much I missed my little man. I was glad that he was still awake so I got to cuddle him and rock him to sleep. Perfect way to end my night.
Thanks Honey for giving me an evening away.
