Weekly Rundown

So much has happened in the last week. Here's a quick run down:

-Last Friday, my co-worker Joanne offered to watch Hanley for us. So, Cody and I lucked out and got another date night.  Having these date nights has meant so much to us.  It's so easy to get side tracked with Hanley and set aside our love for eachother. At dinner, I asked Cody, "Now that you are a parent, if Hanley was to act and talk the way you did as a child, would you be happy about it." Cody responded with, "I was a really good kid, seriously...." Then he thought about it some more and continued, "..Well, I did have a mouth on me from an early age." So, he began to tell me some childhood stories and at the end I was like, "Really, you think those things are okay for Hanley to say?!" Cody quickly responded with, "Well, it was all TRUE!! As long as Hanley is telling the truth, I don't see a problem with it!" Oh boy, are we in for a parenting ride! Thank you again Joanne, for spending the evening with our little man.  I think Hanley had a great time because when I walked in the door, he didn't even care that I was back!! He continued to play with his toys and then cuddled with Cody while we stayed for a drink.

-We have had lots of visitors recently but this weekend was a quiet one at home with just the three of us.

-I packed up all of Hanley's NB/0-3/3-6 month clothing because he has outgown it all!!! He's such a big boy now! I hated to have to pack up some of my favorite little outfits of his. As I packed them away, I wondered if we would ever put them to use again....

-This week Hanley and I went to Eugene to see my "sister" Karissa.  Karissa has been in my life since I was in 7th grade and it's amazing how close we are after all these years.  Hanley was a little grumpy when we first got there but after some cuddles with his Auntie, he calmed down.  She just has the motherly touch! I really enjoyed spending time with her, Travis and their 4 year old son.  I really love spending time with people who I feel have the same parenting style as me because it gives me some insight of what my future holds. Tredan is so well behaved, I only hope I can do just as good of a job with Hanley! And on a side note...I thought nobody really filled out baby books until I saw Tredan's!!!! Oh my, I guess I better get on something for Hanley :o)

-While we were in town, we stopped by Amie's house. Amie is so good with Hanley that I can't wait for her and Tyler to be parents someday! While we were there, Amie tried to teach me to crochet again.  Last time she tried to teach me was when we were in the hospital being induced for Hanley's birth.  With all the distractions from the nurses and etc. I didn't really catch onto it then but I think I have it figured it out a little more now! What I REALLY want to crochet is an Easter place mat for Hanley.  You see, we didn't have too many traditions growing up but one thing that I remember very well is each Easter morning waking up to our special Easter place mats with our Easter goodies. I think it will be fun to continue this tradition for Hanley.

-We had dinner with Kim and Loren while we were in Eugene. Kim made some great homemade pizza! My Mom is really sick right now and my Dad is still working out of state so we didn't get a chance to see them. Thankfully, we will be back in Eugene in early March so we can see them!

Today, I will conclude this post with a sweet picture of our oldest child and our youngest.  I am glad they love each other so much!

Moments to Remember

I thought I would just share this sweet moment from the weekend.  After lunch, I went to go brush my teeth and get ready to head to the grocery store.  When I came back to the living room, this is what I saw....

There's nothing like seeing your two favorite men together!

This picture also sums up a lot of this "stage" in parenting.  At 3 months old, Hanley is more alert, aware and active throughout the day but we are still 2 tired parents!

V Day

In celebration of Valentines Day, Hanley and I had a little fun...

I hope everyone enjoys this day of love but remembers to love their loved ones every day of the year!

Busy Bee's

It was a pretty busy week here at the Olson house. Work has been keeping Cody busy which means there are more often late nights than not.  Hanley and I managed to keep busy too.

Monday: Hanley had a play date with the babysitters daughter...He slept the whole time :o) Which was fine because if gave April and I a chance to talk about some details (dates, times, etc).  I am feeling much better going back to work knowing he will be in good hands.

Tuesday: I had a Dr.'s appointment on Tuesday. Nobody really tells you the reality of recovering from childbirth. Don't us Mama's go through enough!? Not to mention, the prescription they gave me was $195 (thanks to our high deductible plan). Yikes! So...I didn't fill it. Good thing I am tough :o)

Wednesday: Another play date! Sarah and Brooklyn came over for lunch.  It is sooo darn sweet to see Brooklyn with "Baby Hammy" (as she calls him).

Thursday:  We had an office meeting so Hanley got lots of cuddles from all the ladies at work. Next month I will be attending the meeting solo since Hanley will be with the babysitter. So, hopefully I am not a bag of tears at next months meeting...lol.

Weekend: We made a family trip to the brew store Friday night (Hanley has been in far too many brew stores for his young age! Haha). We drank batch 1 (clearly not all of it-we have a 3 month old to care for!), Cody bottled batch 2, and brewed batch 3. His goal is to fill our garage refrigerator with home brews (aka: his treasures).  Cody is finding it difficult to drink his beer because it decreases his treasures (I ran to the grocery store and he had me pick up a case of Bud Light for him..lol.) Unfortunately for him, I don't have the same problem drinking his treasures..they just taste too darn good!

He has named all his beers, now he just needs to give the brewery a name!

Batch 1: Virgin Mary Blonde (in honor of it being the brewery's first batch)

Batch 2: Bare Moon (it should taste like Blue Moon)

Batch 3: Terry PORTER Triple-Double (in honor if the Blazers of the early '90's)

Bottling Day!

3 weeks later, it's ready to drink!

Cody and Loren went to the Sportsman Show on Saturday to pick up our elk tent (complete with a stove!)! We went in halves on an elk tent with the in-laws.  Cody and I plan on using it Memorial Day weekend at Crescent Lake. That way, Mr. Hanley will stay warm and dry (especially if it snows again!).  Cody and Loren will also put it to use when they go hunting in the fall. I think it was a great purchase but I am going to apologize to everyone in advance...I may not leave the tent the whole weekend :)

Another big event of the weekend was Hanley took the bottle without putting up a fight! We hadn't given him the bottle since my Mom was here last weekend but he seemed pretty interested in sucking on his "play" bottle. So, I warmed up some milk and gave it a shot. He took it right away! I was warned that he may never take the bottle if I am home so I was shocked when he let ME bottle feed him! After that, I definitely had an extra pep in my step the rest of the evening :) It takes off some of the going back to work stress and will hopefully free Cody and I up for more date nights.

Hanley turned 3 months old yesterday.  Seriously, where has the time gone?! He "talks" a lot (he comes from a family of talkers though, just look at both of his Grandpa's!), he's a great sleeper (thank goodness!!!), he LOVES bath time, I have already had to box up a bunch of clothes he has out grown, he's at the stage where everything goes in his mouth (fingers, toys, etc.), and we couldn't be more in love with him!

He often finds these 2 fingers which is funny because these are the 2 fingers I sucked as a baby

He loves sitting propped up on the couch with toys! Sometimes we catch him watching the TV, so I turn it off!

He's Back!

Cody came down with a head cold last week and poor Hanley got it too. Hanley and I spent a lot of last week on lock down in the bedroom with the humidifier on and of course we got in lots of cuddles! He's feeling much better this week. I think the proof is in the pic...

It's nice to have our happy boy back (and Daddy too!).

Visitors!

Hanley has been a popular little guy these past few weeks...

Last weekend Kim and Loren came up to see us him :o) While they were in town we visited with some family friends, Jim and Judy.

Hanley and Grandma Olson (and Roxy too!)

We also went on a little shopping spree for Hanley in preparation for the Olson Family Memorial Day Camp Out! We got a bunch of great deals on some cold weather gear for him.  After all, it has snowed on us the past couple years, so we figured we should make sure the little guy is bundled up well! Since Hanley started wearing 6 month clothing at 2 1/2 months old, we made sure to buy big for him!

Cody and I were able to get away Saturday night and leave Hanley with the Grandparents. While we were at dinner, he refused the bottle and starved himself until I got home.  Stubborn little guy!

This weekend my Mom came to visit us Hanley :o)

Hanley and Grandma Stuebing

Cody spent the day out on the water on his new pontoon boat (aka: The Mistress) while the 3 of us went shopping. Later that evening, she braved an evening alone with Hanley while Cody and I went out to dinner.  We ate dinner at Canby Asparagus Farm then went out for drinks in downtown OC. While sipping my first cocktail, we received a text from my Mom....

Yup, thats right! Our big guy took the bottle!

After receiving the picture text, I seemed to feel much more relaxed about spending the evening away from him.  Round 2 of drinks, I think so! Cody and I sat at the bar designing our dream house.  I think the next step might be to meet with a builder.  House plans drawn up on a bar napkin should be enough to get us started, right...? Haha!! Okay, maybe we have a ways to go and a lot of money we need to save first, but we sure love to dream!

Courtney was in town from Seattle this weekend, so she came by today to watch the Super Bowl! We pigged out on homemade pizza and Court got in some Hanley and Roxy cuddles.

Cool Like My Auntie!
Rox sure knows how to sweet talk Aunt Courtney!

It's been great to have so many visitors! Funny how since Hanley's birth, the Olson House has become such a popular place :o)
